Porsche Carrera Cup Australia

Mount Panorama Circuit Bathurst

Leading up to the famous Bathurst 1000 weekend, the awesome MR crew had quite a heavy workload with repairs on a few cars after round 5 at 'The Bend'.

Despite the team having had enormous success at Mt Panorama over the years, our expectations for our young Pros were humble, given how early they are in their Carrera Cup journeys. We were still confident of some silverware for Blisters in the Pro-Am category.

Clay was much happier to qualify 8th and was able to move another place forward in race 1. He held position in race 2 but in race 3 was incorrectly issued a drive-through for contact with Bayley but it wasn’t until after the race the officials realised their mistake, but Clay’s race and chances of a strong round result were ruined.

Lockie was an impressive 6th in practise 1, but got completely snookered by the qualifying debacle but did a great job in race 1 to make 6 positions. In race 2 he was hit from behind dislodging the rear bumper which acted as a parachute and hampered his straight-line speed, and in race 3 he had good pace and made up 4 positions.

Like Lockie, Caleb was shafted by the three red flags in qualifying. In race 1 he made 2 positions, but in race 2 he did nothing wrong, but damaged a radiator at turn 1 which forced him out of the race. In race 3 he charged from grid 19 through to finish 12th.

After Brett did a great job in race 1 to push from last on the grid to second, he was extremely unlucky at the start of race 2 to make light contact after the car ahead unexpectedly checked up, and holed a radiator. In race 3 he charged back through the Pro-Am field from the back to take another 3rd.

Summary

The grids were rather mixed up at Bathurst after three red flag stoppages in the tricky wet conditions in qualifying. This lead to most drivers only getting to set one lap time with their second best lap time actually being a time from a warm up lap! As usual with drivers who have limited experience at Mt Panorama, all four drivers got more confident and quicker as they got more mileage and experience. Blisters had the drive of the race in race 1 and without the bad luck in race 2 would have certainly been on the podium for Pro-Am.

Now the awesome MR crew have a week to prepare the cars for our home event at the Gold Coast.
