Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge

Townsville Street Circuit

Given the success we’ve had at Townsville since we started racing there in 2011, in both Carrera Cup and Michelin Sprint Challenge competition, we were confident of good results.

The drivers and crew were all well aware of the importance of the recent passing of loyal MR driver Tim Miles who had raced with MR since 2013. Needless to say there was significant motivation at all levels of the team to represent Tim’s legacy and do what he loved which was winning trophies.

Summary

All three Pro drivers did exactly what Tim would have wanted and finished the weekend on the podium!

Daniel took another round win in B class, but most importantly qualified 10th among the Gen 2 cars and had 4 of the later model machines behind him on the grid for race 1.

Lockie took his first pole in Porsche racing and second for the round which was outstanding a proof of his growth this year. Kamal was third in only his second weekend with us and showed he is not afraid to get his elbows out to make places.

There was a huge 10-car pileup at the start of race two which took out all four of our Pro Am cars. Eric, John & Kent’s cars were to damaged to repair in the few hours between race 2 and race 3, but Tim’s car had medium damage that the awesome MR crew was able to rectify and get him back on track for 4th place finish in race 3.
